Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I consider using an agent?
Our knowledge of ever-changing regulations, experience with what is to be done from beginning to end and contacts around the world from fellow agents to veterinary authorities.
You may be able to Google OR ask on forums what to do however the responses received from others is very likely based on information and guidance received from an agent at some point.
We are here to make it easier for you and relieve some of the associated stress and this does come at a fee.
We rely on owners to provide us with accurate information, read through all information given thoroughly and adhere to guidance and timelines given.
We are not in business to only make money but to assist in the safe and smooth relocation and reuniting of pets with their families – this is our ultimate goal.
Where are pets placed on the aircraft?
Live animals are loaded into a designated hold that is air pressurized and temperature controlled during flight.
Pets are netted and secured to the bottom of the aircraft so they cannot move.
The sound and temperature pets will experience is similar to that for passengers in the cabin.
How are travel container sizes determined?
Can pets travel with food & water in their container?
It is a requirement for pets to have access to fresh water at all times during transport.
For an international journey, each container will have two suitably sized bowls with water.
It is not recommended for pets to have food in the container as they may experience motion sickness which can lead to nausea and they may vomit OR they may have upset tummy due to stress.
The restricting of food is for the pet’s welfare and comfort and to minimize the risk and amount of mess they may make in the container during flight.
What can travel with my pet in the container?
All containers will be lined with puppy training pads as an absorbent. You may provide a blanket OR towel that your pet is familiar with for comfort.
Pet beds may be possible to include in the container and this will be determined on a case by case basis as it will depend on the length of journey, size of pet and container size.
Pets still need to be able to move around inside their container freely and often a bed can be too bulky. It is highly recommended to include an item of your clothing such as an old t-shirt for the smells.
What type of flights do pets travel on?
Pets travel on passenger flights. Where needed due to container size restrictions, pets may travel on Freighter (cargo only) flights as well.
Pets cannot be booked with multiple layovers from port of international departure to port of final destination unless accepted by the airline.
Pets also cannot change airlines on route, they must depart and arrive at their destination with the same airline.
How far in advance can flights be booked?
Each airline has their own policies and booking windows can be between 6 weeks and 13 days prior to departure date.
More detailed information regarding the policies and window periods will be provided in the pricing emails sent.
Each destination will have a standard minimum notice period accepted and this is to allow for adequate time to review documents and set the necessary schedule for a smooth journey.
What about special diet food and medications?
It will depend on the type of condition your pet has and what medication is required.
Each airline will have different acceptance regulations with a few airlines not willing to accept the risk all together.
Due to flight durations and check in, loading and off-loading from flight timeframes, it cannot be guaranteed that a pet will be given their medication OR food at the exact time required.
We will do our best to provide full flight details with estimated timeframes where the food and medication may be given prior to departure, during layover and at destination.
We cannot be held liable for any missed doses and complications arising from such a situation.
Owners accept that they allow their pets to travel at their own risk.

"I can definitely recommend Pet Worldwide Relocations if you are looking to travel with your pets internationally. Sandi helped me to relocate my 3 cats from SA to the Netherlands. All the steps were laid out and all my queries were promptly answered. Going ahead with her agency definitely relieved a lot of stress and I felt confident leaving the logistics and coordination in her hands. My babies were delivered safely at our house just a few hours after us, and now they are ready to start their journey abroad!"

"Thank you so much, you made this stress free. They're being very cautious of a new environment but things are good. Bean is little grumpy and struggled a bit but she's seeming more at ease now. I think I will give Bean a few more days and she will be right back to her old self in no time.
Charlie is just so happy to be with mom that he hasn't left my side, shame. Thank you so much for all your help to make this possible!"

"We started the process for our 2 Shih Tzus Molly & Elly to travel to Mauritius in May 2023. Sandi was quick to provide all the information and set out a timeline for the steps required. When our one dog failed the Rabies Titre Test, she was on top of having the necessary done. This also meant travel would be delayed until end November at the soonest.
The timeline given for when to expect results, when bookings could be done and the actual travel were spot on. We were extremely anxious about the dogs travelling and Sandi helped with making sure they were as comfortable as possible even arranging a stop in Joburg between flights. We received updates and pictures throughout their travel
Molly and Elly arrived safe and sound on the 14th of December, while tired and thirsty, they were in good spirits. We were able to visit them everyday while they were in quarantine and they were released after 5 days
They have easily settled and it now feels a little more like home. Thank you Sandi for all you efforts in reuniting us with our girls."
